Teaching talking time.
“Teacher talk” is
everything you say when you're in the classroom. If you are someone who
habitually thinks out loud, pay a lot of attention to your “teacher talk”!
One of the tasks
of a teacher trainer is therefore to help new teachers 'unlearn' the idea
that teachers are people whose job it is to talk a lot. Of
course, there is teacher talking time that can benefit students
in the form of teacher demonstrations, conveying meaning
and telling anecdotes.
Teacher talking time is
the time that teachers spend talking in class,
rather than learners. It can be compared with student-talking time. One key
element of many modern approaches is to reduce the amount of TTT as much as
possible, to allow learners opportunities to speak, and learn from
speaking. There are advantages and disadvantages to TTT.In certain cultures,
there is also a tradition of ‘chalk and talk’ which influences the expectations
and behaviour of both teachers and students. However, bearing in mind the
nature of the communicative classroom, teachers should perhaps be aware of the
quality of their TTT and how it is used rather than trying to reduce it to a
bare minimum.
Some disadvantages of TTT are:
1. Teaching
talking can make boring the class.
2.The
students are who need the practice, not the teacher.
3.If a
teacher talk and talk ,the students would have less time for other things
such as reading and writing
There are actually a lot of disadvantages of TTT.Students get bored and do not learn at all.As they say, talkative teachers create speechless students.
ReplyDeleteI wanna know if there is any advantage of this method ? What do you think Xhesi?
ReplyDeleteGood job! I liked the fact that you have mentioned some advantages if TTT and the way you have organized them makes us remeber easier!
ReplyDeleteIt was a good topic and I liked that you included advantages and disadvantages.
ReplyDeleteYour post is well organised, your ideas are clear and I like the fact that you shared the disadvantages rather than advantages, because there are none. Nice.
